Wilma Woods

Prolific and diverse, it is easy to see why Wilma Woods has been compared to Georgia O'Keefe and Vincent vanGogh. She captures the essence and spirit of people and places. Woods lived, worked, and died in New York State (US). Besides painting, drawing, and sculpting, she also organized and judged art events. Her work is popular in Germany, where it received attention and favor from the ruling class.

Yvon Goulet

Yvon Goulet works and live Montreal. Painter and printmaker, he also produces artist's books. He prefers to use recycled material for his work, enhanced with some vernacular techniques. Yvon Goulet finished a baccalaureate at Quebec University in Hull in 1988. In 1989 he collaborated with Philipp Fry, from Ottawa University in a land art project in Oxford-on-Rideau, Ontario. He participated in several national and international exhibitions. In 2003 he was part of the travelling exhibition "The Gay Body" at Vieux Palais, Saint-Jérome, Quebec, (2002), He presented an artist's book "Danger" at IV Rencontres Internationales, Marseille, France (2001); L'art et le papier IV, Jean-Claude Bergeron Gallery, Ottawa (2000); Sen-Art, biennial, Vert-Saint-Denis, France (1998); Mostra Int'l Minigravats, Barcelona, Spain, (1997) Kanagawa 18th Print Int'l Japan (1995); Adzak Museum, Paris, (1993) and Arts 1992 ULB, Brussells, Belgium, (1992).

Yvon Goulet works as a visual historian, searching for cultural artefacts in Montréal's gay village. His paintings, which are inspired by festive and cultural events in that community, enable him to express daily reality, record the events in question and feature the male body as an active participant within the gay community. "I articulate the world in which I live, in a word, the gay village. Unlike many other artists, I take the male body not as an end in itself, but as a tool that allows me to move toward the representation of urban life, and toward a social statement about my epoch". Forever cut up, divided and constructed, his paintings juxtapose numerous episodic fragments that are associated with gay values and that, once assembled, form a multidimensional vision of the gay community.

Jean Chaîney

Born in Montreal in 1957, and raised in Beloeil, Quebec, Jean always felt a strong affinity with the larger city and its immense buildings. At age 18, he attended the Cegep du Vieux-Montreal, where he discovered hyperrealism. While studying, he also realized that he was quite talented at technical drawing, where he was able to explore his affinity with the immense structures of the city. Drawing served as a means of combining his passion for Montreal and his love of creating.

For 15 years, he drew exclusively in black and white pencil. He slowly began to incorporate colored pencils into his pieces. After mastering his own drawing technique, he evolved into a painter. Acrylics were his original medium of choice, but he now feels that oils lend better to his style of painting. Jean Chainey's meticulous images take an immense amount of time to complete. He begins his building pieces with photography, until the composition has been worked out, before beginning on canvas. What makes his portrait pieces unique is not only his attention to detail, but his desire to capture the spirit of his subject. He has also captured the interest of art lovers all over North America.

T.A. Gordon

An extremely talented Canadian painter, Gordon produced 5 of the landscapes in our current offerings, working in the area of Drumheller, Alberta (the famous Badlands, rich in dinosaur remains and an eerie landscape reminiscent of the arid southwest US, but also temperate. All 5 pieces are done in artist-quality acrylics on pH-neutral signboard (3/8" thick).
